First Customer Delivery from Standard Energy’s Automated V-line
Standard Energy has supplied a Vanadium Ion Battery (VIB) uninterruptible power supply, or UPS, to the data-server facility at LB Hunet’s headquarters in Seoul.
The installation is also the first customer delivery of a VIB product manufactured on Standard Energy’s automated production line, known as the V-line.
Standard Energy completed the installation on August 27 at LB Hunet’s headquarters in the Center Point West building near Sindorim Station in Guro-gu, Seoul. Standard Energy’s Kim Sung-jin, Head of Technology Business, and LB Hunet Executive Director Jeon Yong-bae attended a handover event alongside employees from both companies.
Data-server facilities require UPS systems to maintain continuous operation and prevent data loss during outages and other unexpected power disruptions.
LB Hunet had previously used lead-acid battery UPS systems. The company decided to replace them with VIB technology because of the maintenance and replacement requirements associated with battery degradation, as well as the need for rapid power delivery during emergencies and sustained performance over extended periods.
Fire safety was another important consideration.
LB Hunet’s headquarters is located near Sindorim Techno Mart, a major commercial complex with significant pedestrian traffic. The ability to install the system indoors while addressing fire-safety requirements was therefore an important factor in selecting VIB.
Rapid Backup Power With Remote Monitoring
The installed VIB UPS is designed to begin supplying power within 0.003 seconds of an outage.
It can provide 2.5 kW of output for more than one hour and is designed to maintain consistent performance even after repeated use.
For unexpected situations requiring greater output, the system can deliver 5 kW for up to 45 minutes, providing flexibility across different emergency conditions.
The VIB UPS is also designed to continue supplying power even if individual cells are damaged, helping protect server operations and data.
Remote monitoring further reduces the need for on-site maintenance. Unlike the lead-acid UPS previously used by LB Hunet, the VIB UPS does not require monthly field inspections.
Fire Safety and Rapid Response for Data Infrastructure
UPS systems are essential in data centers and server facilities because even a momentary loss of electricity can interrupt server operations.
This creates a particular technical challenge: UPS equipment needs to be located close enough to servers to provide power immediately when the grid supply is interrupted.
As a result, both fire safety and response speed are critical requirements for data-server UPS systems.
Concerns over battery safety have also increased as operators assess the potential consequences of a UPS fire spreading to nearby servers and causing broader data or infrastructure losses.
At the same time, UPS systems must detect a disruption in power supply and switch to battery power without delay to prevent server shutdowns.
Standard Energy’s VIB technology uses a water-based electrolyte and is designed to provide rapid power response when an outage occurs.
These characteristics allow VIB to address two of the key requirements for data-server UPS applications: fire safety and fast response.
Expanding From UPS to AI Data-Center Energy Infrastructure
The role of data-center power infrastructure is becoming increasingly important as the AI industry expands.
Traditional data centers have often focused on data storage and backup. AI data centers, by contrast, must support increasingly intensive computing workloads, creating new requirements for power capacity, reliability and energy management.
Standard Energy sees an opportunity for VIB technology to expand beyond conventional backup-power applications.
In addition to protecting AI data-center operations through UPS systems, VIB ESS could be used to improve the efficiency and reliability of power infrastructure supporting AI computing workloads.
Standard Energy has already been developing solutions in this area.
The company jointly received a CES 2026 Innovation Award with Korean AI semiconductor company Rebellions for “Dopamine,” an AI power-infrastructure solution for data centers.
Standard Energy has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Elice Group, which develops modular data-center infrastructure, to jointly develop AI data-center solutions designed for flexible deployment.
The LB Hunet installation provides Standard Energy with another operating reference as the company works to expand VIB UPS and ESS applications into areas where fire safety, rapid response and power reliability are particularly important.
Standard Energy plans to use VIB UPS and ESS to help mitigate power fluctuations in AI data centers and support the growing electricity requirements associated with AI infrastructure.
